Editing
Prices for academic editing are based on word count and type/complexity of editing.
Because every project is different, I ask for a sample of the work to be edited and a real or estimated total word count to allow me to generate a quote. Usually, prices range from $0.04 to $0.08 per word. I customarily ask for a deposit for larger projects.
Some authors find it easier to discuss their projects in real time, so I offer a free call to discuss your project and your goals for it before I begin work. These conversations usually last about 30 minutes.
Indexing
Prices for indexing are based on the number of indexable pages, complexity of prose, and desired index length. For example, an index for a 200-page book will usually cost between $700–$1,000.
Writing Coaching and Consulting
I also offer coaching/consultation billed by the hour.
Because each writer’s needs are different, this live support can take various forms. Some clients benefit greatly from workshopping text in real time, while others choose a more inquiry-based approach in which I ask questions designed to help clients make decisions, uncover arguments, and explore goals.
My base rate for coaching and consultation is $125/hour. I also offer a sliding scale beginning at $50/hour for students and underresourced and/or contingent scholars.
